
Fees for MISSING or LOST ITEMS
- Lost Library Card - $2.00 per card
- Magazine Replacement - $10.00
- Damaged or Lost Item - Cost of item + $5.00 processing fee

Request Materials
All materials for loan at the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library and the other libraries in our consortium, can be reserved for pickup even if they are currently checked out. To request an item be set aside or brought in from another library, you must be in the PrairieCat online catalog. You may enter your search term at the top of any page in our website where you see, Search The Online Catalog.
Once you have searched the catalog and found what you wanted, click the red "Place Hold" button on the left. You will be asked for your library card number and pin. Type in your whole 14 digit library card number. Your pin is the last four digits of your library card number provided you have not changed it. Also indicate if you wish to pick up your item at some library other than the home library listed below the pin. Click "Place Hold." You will see a confirmation page confirming your name and the name of the item. Click "OK." You may then go back to searching for additional items.
Picking Up Items On Hold
When your reserved items become available, library staff will notify you by phone or if you signed up for email alerts you will be notified through your email account. You will have five days to pick up your items. The items will be held at the front desk.
If you are picking up holds for another family member, please be sure to have their card available.
Review Materials
All material borrowed from the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library is loaned for a period of two weeks with the exception of DVDs which are only loaned for seven days. You may review the items you have checked out at any time by going to the Online Catalog and clicking "My Account" on the top bar of the catalog. On the My Account screen, click Review My Account. Enter your library barcode (all 14 numbers, no spaces, and pin ) and click "Display User Information." You will see a list of items you have checked out and their due dates, as well as your holds - items you have placed requests for. From this screen you can cancel any hold that you no longer need.
Renew Material
If you wish to extend your loan on an item you have checked out, go to the Online Catalog. click the "My Account" link and then click on Renew my materials. You will have to enter your library barcode (all 14 digits) and your pin (last four digits of your barcode). You will then see a list of items you have checked out with a selection box next to each one. Click in the selection box next to any item for which you would like to extend the loan, and then click "Renew Selected Items." Check the new due dates that appear on the right to verify your request was performed.
NOTE: Interlibrary loan material (items we have borrowed from distant or out-of-system libraries for you) cannot be renewed through the catalog. You must request a renewal of interlibrary loan items by calling 815-478-3987.
Book Returns
Our outside book return is located to the right of the building entrance. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Items may also be returned at the book returns inside the Library. All AV material (DVDs, VHS Tapes, CDs, etc.) must be returned to the inside book drop.
